Stairs are a bunch of steps. They don't go up or down. If you're going up then YOU're going up not the stairs. =P

You need to know some quantum mechanics to answer this one because it's a kind of superposition problem in that the stairs can go both up and down - they exist in a dual state. Information, such as whether you're at the top or bottom, solves the duality.
