I bought a used brass lamp that has some darkened areas and needs cleaning. Wha works best?

How can I clean the lamp without hurting the coating?

1 tsp. salt and 1 tsp. ketchup with a soft cloth wipe it on and let it sit a little, then rub it of, works like a charm

if its an older lamp that is, or maybe be an antique some day, do not do anything to it except to dust it. if you take off the patina it will be worthless.

u wont believe but rub it with cigarette ash.
