My hair is shedding so much to where i should see bald spots, but I don't. People say I'm stressed or I damaged my hair by putting perms in it, but the way my hair is falling out, i have to be really stressed and I'm not, and i don't perm my hair alot at all. I know your hair is suppose to shed everyday, but i shed all during the day, even if I'm not combing my hair, long strings just fall out, on my shoulders; these long strings are coming directly from my roots. I have been to alot of hair salons and they all say the same thing, " You just need your ends cut, or you need a deep condition and so on, but my hair is still shedding alot. I really need someone to answer my question, because now I'm starting to feel that I have a sickness of somekind. I don't know what to think and what kind of doctor can I go too about my hair. I live in Indianapolis, IN and I'm a black , 23 year old, female. Can some one please give me some advice on what to do.

There are many reasons for hair loss, collectively they all come under the heading alopecia. You should see a dermatologist to have some basic blood test done, some things to check for include the thyroid, anemia, and iron levels. Even if you're not anemic, low blood iron levels can lead to alopecia. With diffuse hair loss the way you're describing, there is a condition called telogen effluvium, it is stress related but to something that has happened in the past, usually past 3-5 months. The stress can be psychological or physical such as a surgery, illness with fever, giving birth etc.. With this stress the hair follicles switch to a different growth phase and start falling out at the same time, hence the increased shedding. Eventually the follicles go back to their regular cycle. I would still recommend seeing ur doctor and for more information on alopecia go www.emedicine.com patient resources.

I had the same problem except i got a bad perm and my ends were split all the way to the roots. Every time i washed or combed my hair it would just come out. But I didn't know that was the problem so i went to the doctor and she told me that my hair was split to the roots and it was caused by a perm. So I went to the hair dresser after I let my hair grow for a little while and she cut it all the way where my newgrowth had grown I didn't like it. So I went and got braids. I have gotten redone about two times since december. so u could do that or just go to a doctor.

I would start by getting a basic health checkup. My mom used to say that the hair was the reporter of the body - you could tell someone's health by the state of their hair.

In addition to the standard blood tests any doctor can request, ask your doctor for a fasting insulin blood test . Ask for a copy of your results. 10 or higher is abnormal for an adult.

Also ask for a saliva test. This test will tell you if any of your feminine hormones are not at the best levels. I do not like doctors who prescribe hormones for any problem without testing first. When that happened to me - the shot he gave me switched me from low blood sugar to diabetes.

nicely my canines shed usually. specific, laying off is a seasonal factor, inspite of the incontrovertible fact that this does not exclude different probabilities of a few hypersensitivity or ailment. He could be allergic to the numerous meals he takes, as man or woman canines seem to have different hypersensitive reactions to different meals. My canines like to eat fish, yet this particularly reasons them to start laying off their hair. Dont feed them goodies because it is posoin to them.

You may have alopecia. Look it up or ask a dermatologist. I had it and never did anything about it. It went away on it's own and my hair is just fine.
