No, this is a hoax, Mars will be closer than anytime in recorded history, however if it were close enough to appear as large as the moon it would cause catastrophic damage to infrastructure here on earth.

No, that email that is going around is a hoax. I strongly recommend taking a look at this site when you get an email that seems questionable:

Here's the links regarding this particular one:

Even at the closest possible point between the Earth & Mars, there is no way for it to be as large as the moon. At best it will look like a very bright star.

No, and it is just barely visible shortly after sunset in the west. Also, if you read the hoax email carefully you will see that it implies that mars will look at 75x magnification as large as the moon to the naked eye. It won't look that big this year (it made it's closest approach weeks ago), but it did several years ago when it came less than 35 million miles from us.

No. This is a hoax that started about three years ago. If Mars ever looked as big as the Moon, it would seriously mess around with our tides and overall have effects we wouldn't like.

Well you will not have to wait until August 26th. Mars is larger than the moon right now!
Of course it is much further away and because of that it always appears that the moon is larger.

No.
mars' closest approach is around 55 million kilometres.
the radius of mars is around 3397km [earth 6366km]. angular size will be 2*3397/55000000*180/pi*3600=25.5 arc seconds [size of a pin head]
brightness -2.9
moon radius is 1737km avg distance is 385000km
2*1737/385000*180/pi*3600= 1861 arc seconds
brightness -12.6 [more negative is brighter]

No.
It was three years ago, and it sure as heck wasn't as "big as the moon" then.
