No, it is not true... but their lifespan is till pretty exceptional. There is a group studying the effects of aging on a certain species of turtle (Blandings). What they are finding is astounding- at some point, this particular species' body defies the laws of aging to the point it effetively does stop aging for an unknown period of time. Not all turtles are like this, however, but several do not display what is called senescence, or cell deterioration, as much as do other animals. The ways their bodies can do this is of particular interest right now.

Most Animals don't die of old age, Humans Kill them - - - though certain species of turtles do live to be a hundred or so, others have relatively brief life spans. Those small box turtles that you buy at your local pet shop croak within the decade. Everything dies eventually - - -

Interesting question.
Most turtle die of other causes - predation, habitat destruction, run over by cars when crossing a street, killed by people for food, disease, etc etc
Some will die of old age however. Old age to some turtles can be over 100.

Every living thing dies at some time of some thing. If it doesn't die of old age then it dies from injury or disease. Turtles live a very long time naturally,, old age can be a coupld of hundred years for some kinds,,,, so maybe it means that they do die of accidents or disease more often than from old age.

Turtles and tortoises have been known to live up to 300 years believe it or not. I do think they can die of old age though. One of the reasons they live to such an old age is because of their body temperature, and metabolism. It is said if humans body temperature were just 2-3 degrees lower we could live to 200 years old.

I'm no biologist but I would have to say that is totally untrue. So by your questions logic, if one could take care of a turtle and be sure no accident happened to it, it could live forever? Think about this.
