me and my friends have been doing game nites (we are 17) for a while now and love them. monopoly and risk are really fun classics although some people like stratego I don't. also speed scrabble is incredible. its a fast version of scrabble where you build your own board. everyone gets 7 tiles and builds their own crossword. when someone uses up all their tiles they call "go" and everyone has to take a new tile. the first person to use all their pieces after all the pieces have been taken from the bag wins. also you can rearrange or completley restart your crossword puzzle at anytime. there is tons of late game and early game strategy involved which makes the game great. points don;t count. i think those are all the rules. along the same lines is a great game Boggle.
for a slightly less academic twist try the hilarious girl talk (i dunno why its called that cause its not for girls)
basically everyone rights superlatives (most likely to... or somthing like that) and puts them in the center. then when u have a good pile u grab some and read them to yourself then give them to the person who deserves it most. when the pile is gone everyone reads the ones they got. its fun if you aim them at people and then other people get them or if u do fun superlatives. it works best with creative people or people wiht personalities.
beyond that the best thing to do is to go to a hobby shop with your friends and see all the coool games there.

happy gaming!
