If the Christian god and bible was exposed as a hoax and the "door knob" did not cooperate, would AAers have to rely on their own brain to change their behaviour? Would they smoke and drink themselves to death like Bob and Bill because of "bad nerves" or, would the all just committ hari kari and stop spreading all the manure. I think the later is likely!

This ones for Clancy!

Then the group or your sponsor would become their higher power. If you weren't so ignorant you would know the real purpose of a "higher power" is so that you don't think you are in charge.
So grow up.

I've heard members say that if AA disappeared, they'd relapse. I'm sure the same goes for their higher power.

I've seen and heard of people, some who haven't touched the stuff in decades, who become convinced that a drop of alcohol will set off such intense cravings that they must go out on a binge. One such person on the internet talks about how a sliver of cheesecake that contained a half teaspoon of vanilla extract in the whole cake caused him to have to lock himself in his house for days.

That's nothing more than convincing yourself of something. If you believe it enough, your mind will manufacture the symptoms. They're giving themselves reasons to drink.
