I have a brick walkway/patio that is in dire need of repair. They have either been raised by tree roots or have sunk because of erosion or perhaps ant nests.

you need to get to the root of the problem.pun intended.

seriously, the best way would be to take out all the bricks in the damaged area and 2 ft.either way.take out 6 inches of material or dirt and replace with new sand or stone dust.compact w/ a hand tamper and reset bricks.use a rubber mallet to set bricks and to level.pitch from the middle for water drain-off.tehn brush/sweep new sand between.you may have to brush more material between bricks after it settles.

it may be easier and much better,in the long run, to just re-do the whole walkway.if you do this, use a metal edging or mortar your soldier course.also, dont forget,to crown the middle so that you have good water drainage.if doing a large walkway it may be worth renting a power/gas compactor.

good luck, it goes pretty good once you get going.if new to this give yourself the weekend to complete.any ??? contact me thru e-mail
