I read that a rabbits nails need to be trimmed to avoid damage. However, I am scared to trim my rabbits nails because she moves her hand and won't let me, so i don't want to hurt/cut her. Taking her to the vet to get her nails trimmed, scares her half to death. Wt can I do?

The vein in a rabbits nail is hard to see sometimes. If you don't know what your looking for, you will make her bleed. It would be like cutting your own nail too short. If your adiment about not taking her to the vet, get a pair of clippers and just take off the very tip of the nail. But I really think you should take it to the vet, or even a groomer. Groomers tend to be quicker at it, and to be honest, better at it then a vet. Vets do more medical treatment per day. Groomers cut nails day in and day out and actually do it faster, and are less stressfull then a vet.

There is a nail trimmer especially for the purpose. We trimmed our rabbits all the time with no problems at all. It looks like a clipper, with an opening for the nail. It is difficult to cut too short because of the design.

With one hand grab the rabbits ears and the scruff of her neck... place the other hand under her hind quarters and flip her onto her back... rest her hind quarters on your lap while still holding her ears and neck... If she kicks do not let go of her because she will then learn that she can dominate you with this behavior... Clip her nails, but make sure to stay above the pink part of the nail... if you do cut down too far stop the bleeding with styptic powder and continue cliping her nails... when you are done, slide your free hand underneath her hindquarters once more and flip her back over onto her feet...

if you are nervous don't do it. it's not worth it. but normally you hold the rabbit on their back and it makes them still. then you trim the nails so that it's not too close to the pink part (the vein). always have steptic powder availble so if you do cut to close you can clot the bleeding fast.

my opinion, just go to a groomer. they'll charge you about $5.

You can take them to a vet or groomers. Another option is to hold food or treats. They should keep your pet pre-occupied.
