Laser surgery sends bursts of light into the vein. Lasers are very direct and accurate. You will feel heat when the laser hits your skin and, for some people, this can be quite painful. A session usually takes 15 to 20 minutes and you usually need a minimum of 2 treatments...could require many more.

The doctor can also insert a catheter (small tube) into the vein and emit the laser through the tube. This will shrink and seal the vein. Bruising may result.

After effects include: redness and swelling which will last for a few days. Discolored skin will disappear in a month or two. Sometimes, there is burning and scarring occur.
