I don't know where you live (whether dsl is available in your location, due to remoteness, or distance from the telephone office, etc), but are you aware that much better service and signal speed is available with dsl (digital service line)? And at quite reasonable cost in many areas. Dial up service is slooooow. And when I had dial up, my service provider blocked my usage when I hooked more that one computer to the service. If you arrange for dsl service you can hook up as many devices as you like (we have at least 10 computers around the house, plus the folks next door). And all the computers are connected to the internet if they are turned on. You will need a router at a cost of less than 50 dollars. The service provider gives you a "dsl modem" that is connected to a phone jack. You attach a network cable from the dsl modem to the router. You plug a separate network cable for each computer into the router. The router does all the work of processing the signals from the computers to the internet, and the return signals to your computers. Another possibility is to add internet access to your cable service if you have that. Do yourself a favor and lose that dial up internet connection!

Connect them with a network cable. This will only connect them together. However, you can't BOTH be on w/just one connection. Each system needs its own separate connection to the internet.
