While I do believe there are a few better Hip Hop songs out there and ones that I prefer, I'm going to hand it to "The Message" by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. The reason being for this is just down to the fact that it has had such a long lasting impact on the Hip Hop, an for that matter . . music scene as a whole. It's a beat that has now been sampled so much by now that it's no longer funny. Just about everyone who hasn't been living under a rock for the past 30 years know's it and those infamous lines "don't push me cause I'm close to the edge, I'm trying not to lose my head". The lyrics are deep, meaningful and ever relevant as they address many problematic issues facing those growing up in the inner city, living in poverty and constantly near danger. The structure of the song is also a component which makes this song so great, telling a narrative in a semi humorous manner with an interesting but also thought provoking ending to say the least. In all honesty, it's perhaps a little bit cheesy in this day and age (thank's a lot late 80s to mid 90s) but in my whole-hearted opinion, it's aged incredibly well mainly down to the timeless message found in it's lyrical content and instantly recognizable and celebrated beat. Without question, the defining song of Hip Hop.

I honestly think that your opinion of Sean Paul should be spoken. My opinion about him he really has no good voice or good songs at all.
