Acne is a disorder resulting from the action of hormones and other substances on the skin's oil glands (sebaceous glands) and hair follicles. These factors lead to plugged pores and outbreaks of lesions commonly called pimples or zits. Acne lesions usually occur on the face, neck, back, chest, and shoulders. Although acne is usually not a serious health threat, it can be a source of significant emotional distress. Severe acne can lead to permanent scarring.
Washing your face does help but it may clear the suffface. As seen from the above acne goes deep within and mere wahing would not be adequate. You have certainly keep your face clean. Also always bear in mind that the differences in individual metabolism may give different reaction. Some people claim that a mere washing of the face with soap and water ia all that they did and it helped. But this may not occur in all cases and recourse to medical advice is advisable.
The face washing has also to be done properly.Gently wash your face with a mild cleanser, once in the morning and once in the evening, as well as after heavy exercise from under the jaw to the hairline and be sure to thoroughly rinse your skin.
Ask your doctor or another health professional for advice on the best type of cleanser to use.
Using strong soaps or rough scrub pads is not helpful and can actually make the problem worse. Astringents are not recommended unless the skin is very oily, and then they should be used only on oily spots.
It is also important to shampoo your hair regularly. If you have oily hair, you may want to wash it every day.
Not that in the old days people did not have acne. Before the acne products developed they may be using some domestic and some herbal medicines. It is always better to have medical advice for acne.

If you’re looking for accurate acne information, best to see a dermatologist. Some people believe doctors are predisposed to take the easy way to deal with acne… prescription drugs. But, with many, this simplistic answer may not be the appropriate course of action. Some feel that such prescription drugs just treat the symposium and not the underlying cause. But, a local dermatologist is still your best starting point.
For me personally, I discovered a great informational acne treatment site. Not only is there good information/articles but I got their audio e-book and following it’s advice can now say that my acne is a thing of the past! Keep in mind, were all different and there are various types of acne, so what works for some may not be totally effective for all.
Bottom line, hang in there, you will get past this! Sincere best wishes and good luck.
Oh, by the way the site that helped me is:

Well I guess soap and water is better than nothing, but I think a proper foam cleanser is faster and more efficient. There are tons of lines with good products, like Neutrogena, Clean and Clear, or Wet 'n' Wild.

no way! theres a reason why people came up with acne products. soap and water will dry out your face, this will make your face produce more oils and make your face worse.

well, it does dry up your acne and makes them disppear but the bacteria isn't killed so the effect is only temporary. thus, the acne will naturally recur. the best option for treating acne permanently is to see a dermatologist and use the appropriate products.
