In a world where it's so hard to trust people, this another blow.
Although I've been on the site myself since Tom created it as a teenager and careful, I would of dismissed the thought of it being dangerous until I read an article of a girl being raped and killed who would be my age currently :|
However after reading requests from 10 year olds to date on yahoo answers, this has to go out to the parents, friends and loved ones for those who know the most innocent, naive and vulnerable that use sites.
The net can be a great place put it has it's downsides with severe consequences.
This incident happened a year ago a young girl was raped and murdered by a man she met on myspace. There have been countless incidences with children being lured and raped in their home to identity theft to name the least. The scariest part of this is, she was my age, thought she knew better but fell into the palms of the creature she met. Take heed.
(f) RIP Taylor

The internet can be a wonderful place if it's users were a bit more educated. See, a lot of these incidents occur because number one, children are afraid to talk to parents. Somewhere down the line, fear has been instilled into these children and they feel they can't tell their parents what's going on in their lives (I used to be one of those kids). Another reason is because parents are unfamiliar with this new technology called "internet". They don't really know how it works, and thus don't know how to teach their children appropriate internet behavior. Now, some kids, like myself, whose parents are internet dummies, learn these rules on their own or in school, however, there are many who miss out on these important lessons. Somehow we need to educate childrent so that they will understand the common sense of the internet. How? I don't know.

Absolutely. It's even getting more air time on TV now, where they discuss and warn peopel about the dangers of predators on the internet. Parents should keep the computer in a well travelled area so they can see what their child is doing.

very sad. myspace isnt all bad though. make sure you have only your approved friends that can see your page and never "hook up" with anyone on myspace. anyone can pretend to be anyone else on the internet. dont let someone fool you. most of all dont give out your information.
