the prices i display do not say 99 cents ( without tax ).

everybody knows about tax, so it is OK

NO . All stores use this practice, including the original 99 cent store.

Why, you aren't pocketing the government's cut are you? YOU are only charging 99 cents, the government gets the rest.

No, if the tax in your area is 8%, you're right. Most people should be aware of what's taxable and what's not. To be on the safe side, you could have a notation "plus tax".

Depends on the tax rate. If it's 5%, than it's false advertising and won't be good for your reputation if it irritates anybody.

As long as you declare, even in the smallest writing, that your price is exclusive of tax then that is fine.

Alot of stores do that, but i would check with your local Better Business Bureau just to make sure. Different cities have different regulations on that.
