My ancestors came to America at the beginning of the 20th century and never owned slaves. So why am I expected to repent for something neither I nor my relatives were involved with? I do think it was a terrible thing that happened, but I'm not going to feel any worse about it than I do for any other tragedy that took place, but I wasn't involved in.

By the way I just mean some people, not all people. And also this isn't pointed at any certain race because I've heard people from almost all of the races say something like this.

Who are these people who think that? Who think you should repent for that? What would a repent solve anyway?
Why do people always think it about slavery what's so terrible about slavery as you claim? Slavery is not a sin, If the slaves is willing or has a justified reason for working for you. Israel was slaves in Egypt but no one cared not even God until Israel care as long as they enjoy their bondage then they were to remain their. People will do anything that you allow them to. Ex if i want to be a slave and work free then let me even if you are white. But if you start controlling, trying to oppress and degrade me then that a different story.
It a sin to mistreat a slave or anyone, No, todays whites are not responsible for the oppression of blacks or slavery. But America is responsible for the way they treated the Black race. The country that did all the horrible crimes against blacks is still here. the people who did it happen to be white just as crime committed in China were the people happen to be Chinese. Was it not the US that made Oppression legal, Jim Crow Legal was it not that they encourage murder and lynching and rape of blacks? If so why were hardly any whites punished for their crime if so a slap on the wrist. Was it not America that legally made it to keep blacks as slaver even agianst their will? As i said before you don't have to be or have any relation with a slave owner to hate and oppress blacks, now that is the sins. Slavery is not.

the common premise of your theory is improper. And right this is why: The continent of Africa has for hundreds of years been plagued with tribal warfare that has bring about the enslaving and bloodbath of the losers. The winner of the warfare takes who they decide for as slaves and then slaughters something. Then alongside got here the Europeans and the Asians who then observed a competent deal and commenced paying for those enslaved from the winner. So, people who're now descendants of slaves are in certainty the weaker no longer the better.

dont feel you need to "answer" for the mistakes of others. people who make that assumption are just as intelligent as the ones who say "All Arabs are dangerous" when they may have been born and raised by thier parents here, be a citizen of the USA from the day were born, and be as peaceable as a dove. mine great-grandparents came over in 1923 on my dads side and my moms side were poor, poor mountain miners who probably never met anyone of another race living where they did (sad but it was the society then). dont let it bother you, narrow minds have nothing better to do than think up things like that.

I agree! What happened was terrible and we should learn a great lesson from so that it never happens again, but there is no one alive today who had any part in it and people need to let it go and quit blaming us for it. Even if my family had participated that would still not put the blame on me. I am responsible for my own bad deeds only.

Maybe for the same reasons people think all blacks had ancestors that were slaves....A lot of blacks in Africa was not effected by the slave trade. They were the fortunate ones that were not captured...

So why are you worried about it? If you had no first hand knowledge of what happened, then you are worrying for nothing.
Life is too short to spend it wasting time worrying about something our ancestors may or may not have done.

Some just want to blame everyone for what happened to them. I'm black but i know it was not all white that mistreated blacks. It was mostly the ignorant and well to do ones.

We don't think that. Repent or don't, I could care less, saying sorry for something that happened hundreds of years ago can't help me now anyway.
