This will probably only make sense to other Latins, maybe Europeans. I'm a friendly guy, and I think Argentinians are on the whole a nice and welcoming people - but man, do I get some negative vibes sometimes, just for mentioning my heritage. How stupid.

Los "che" are great people, a bit proud but its essential to have a healthy national self-image.

That's our karma. I'm an Argentinian, and I suffer that stereotype a lot. I think those who have made it for us are a bunch of tourists (mainly from Buenos Aires or other large cities) who travelled around and giving us all a bad name.

I was discussing this with someone a few weeks ago, and I think these people are so insecure that they need to attack to ascertain their personality. But if you meet a sufficiently large number of us, you'll see that most of us are just regular people, not any better or worse than anybody else.

BTW, "ascertain" may come up as a pretentious word for you, thus proving your point. But after a while I didn't find a better word for that.

Having never met one, I'd have to say that I don't think that. I've wanted to go to Argentina for a long time to see if they really do speak more Castillano Spanish than the rest of the Latino countries. I wonder if you get a negative vibe from all the Germans who went down there after the war and kept their Nazism alive? Just a thought. (I don't think most people know that.)
