Unfortunately it doesn't appear we can separate the concepts. Many people depend on their religion to define their basis of morality exclusive of other other considerations such as fairness and legally guaranteed rights. It tickles me that so many people demand that their Bible be enshrined in the U.S. legal system as its basis when this country was founded on the basis of religious freedom - the right to practice any religion or no religion. It's a nice idea, though!

Todays society seems to place religion into all aspects of life. To separate religion from homosexuality is not easy since bible experts seen to quote of being gay. There countless other sins in the bible also. How many of these sins have hetrosexuals committed?

Actually as a religious gay guy, I have said all along that the marriage question could be solved by a total separation of church and state. The state could then marry ANY two adults in a civil contract. The various religions and their subgroups could decide for themselves whether they want to conduct services to sanctify those unions or not.

Everyone could have marriage and all the rights invloved in it, and those who belong to a gay affirming religious organization could also choose a church wedding!

Problem solved.

Tell that to Bush-Cheney- or Denny Hastert

you cant seperate what was never joined religion is just an idea ...sexuality is a human response.

if sexuality had anything to do with religion we'd all be praying to it instead of constantly worrying about what everyone is doing in bed.

gays do marry do adopt and do have kids ivf ...they are not seeking approval just equal human rights ....and in time america will catch up with the rest of the world ...its called social development, america is always a bit behind on this

actually, it's quite the opposite ... there is one very compelling reason being gay is socially SUPERIOR and that is that the world is overpopulated

we are currently facing huge world problems: pollution, oil crisis, top soil loss, destruction of rain forests ... each of these problems is either a result of or an exacerbation of our primary problem which is overpopulation ... we passed a sustainable world population at about 2 billion ... by or before the year 2030, we will not be able to feed the world population ... whatever happens, it won't be pretty

gay relationships typically have fewer children than straight ... gays are part of the solution to the biggest problem ever to confront mankind

I'm not opposed to gays/gay marriages/gays adopting children. There's nothing wrong with being who you are, as long as you don't go after children (same goes for straight people too). You can't help it who you love... maybe its due to circumstances beyond your control, maybe its due to your own free will. Gays should be allowed to marry, they're people too, just the same as straight people who want to marry, only difference is they like the same sex. They love who they love with all their hearts, regardless of their genitalia. And gays should be allowed to adopt... they're no more likely to "harm" their children than straight people do.

Sexual orientation is inherent. Natural.

Religion is a belief. Choice.

They are already separate, and, unfortunately because of the religious fear of homosexuality, they will probably remain separated. Not because homosexuals don't necessarily believe in God, but because religious folk tend to not let homosexuals in to play their reindeer games.

My religion tells me that homosexuality is a sin. Thats all I need to know. That is why I oppose it.

Im afraid thats the point.
There are no non-religious reasons.
Unfortunately - people seem quite willing to damn others on those grounds alone.
