~`~Symptoms of Rabies~`~

ANIMALS
In the "furious" form of rabies, traditionally associated with mad dogs, symptoms usually develop between 20 - 60 days after exposure. Rabid animals may become:
1. aggressive
2. combative
3. highly sensitive to touch and other kinds of stimulation.
4. And they can be vicious.

In the "dumb" form of the disease in which the animal is:
1. lethargic
2. weak in one or more limbs
3. unable to raise its head or make sounds because its throat and neck muscles are paralyzed

***In BOTH kinds of animal rabies, death occurs a few days after symptoms appear, usually from respiratory failure.

HUMANS
The course is similar. After a symptom-free incubation period that ranges from 10 days to a year or longer (the average is 30 to 50 days), the patient complains of:

1. malaise
2. loss of appetite
3. fatigue
4. headache
5. fever
6. Over half of all patients have pain (sometimes itching) or numbness at the site of exposure.
7. They may complain of insomnia or depression.

In 2 -10 days later, signs of:

1. nervous system damage appear
2. hyperactivity and hypersensitivity
3. disorientation
4. hallucinations
5. seizures
6. paralysis
7. Death may be sudden, due to cardiac or respiratory arrest, or follow a period of coma that can last for months with the aid of life-support measures.

If the animal is foaming at the mouth, looks vicious and trys to bite you. Run for your life.
