Now, I'm a Woman, and even I think it's a bad idea. Sure- England has a queen, but what sort of power does she have? Hardly any. A woman would do better in the House or the Senate- that's my veiw.

Don't you think we're about ready for a woman president? Could an intelligent woman do any worse than the bozo who's president now? Other countries have had and do have women leaders and none of them have disappeared from the face of the earth because the woman screwed up. If a woman is qualified and can win, what's wrong with that? I'd trust some women before I'd trust another Bush, or even the one that we have now. And, if she runs, I plan on voting for Hillary Clinton in '08 - its time this country shed all the male chauvanism and joined the rest of the world.

There are many examples throughout history of great (or at least very effective) woman leaders, even in our lifetime. Outside the United States and other very conservative countries, the idea of a woman president or prime minister is well accepted. Surely, a capable woman deserves the chance to be the president of the United States? Whether the current contender, Hilary R. Clinton, is suitably qualified is open for debate, although I will ask this question...how could she possibly be any worse than the current occupier of the White House?!?!

Sure, if they get the job done, I'm all for it. But in a way, it might be hard to compare her quality of achievements to those of men simply because the presidency is not a solitary and independent job. The President is subject to all sorts of rules and limitations of authority. It would be interesting when a woman does get to be President (I hope it's just a matter of time and not IF) if she can show how a female does bring new, different inherently female capabilities to the job. I think we're beyond the illusion that male and female minds are overly similar (I'm not saying intelligence!). By now, we know women are more intuitive, for example. In terms of skills for the job and intelligence a woman is as capable as a man. But I'm interested in seeing how female gender and mind can actually bring strengths to what has been historically a male office.

Why is that your view? Don't you believe that you are as competent as your male counterparts? I think a woman, as long as she was qualified would be completely appropriate in the White House. However, I would never vote for a woman simply because she was a woman.
P.S. the queen doesn't have any real power because she is basically just a figure head. Margaret Thatcher was the Prime Minister and she had power.

I'm not opposed to the idea of a woman in the White House, but there is not a current female politician on the scene that I would vote for. Right now I don't believe that a female is electable. I think gender is a poor choice for deciding your vote, but that seems to be the way Americans are.

The fact that there hasn't been a female President before doesn't mean that there won't be one in the future. It's the same thing as never having had a minority President--it hasn't happened yet. We're so used to Caucasian males in suits. Who says that the next President won't be African American, Latin American, Asian American, or Native American? Who says that the next President won't be a woman? My sister is going to run for President once she's thirty-five, and she's already planned her platform. She's going to make changes in health care, education, taxes, and welfare. So far, the men in the White House have been doing sucky jobs in those areas. They've been doing too much to appear 'affirmative'--you know, giving out plans that will make it seem they are getting something done, but what's been done so far is only electric taping problems and leaving them for the next guy. My sister is going to do a much better job.
Oh, and Larry? You need kicked.

A woman in the White House is fine, I think the President should have a wife.

Just as it depends on the man whether he should be in the White House, whether we should have a woman in the White House depends on the woman.
