Just tell him the truth, inlighten you child, dont keep it a secret. Chances are he wont understand what your talking about anyway. Tell him about what goes on in the human body and how boys and girls are different.

honestly but not in detail. Tell your son that once a month women bleed from their * (fill in your own word here), that it doesn't hurt at all and it only last a couple of days. Tell him if you didn't bleed then you would have never had him so it's okay because he's such a blessing.
No need to go into detail but don't lie and dont' make a big deal about it. My kids actually got ahold of a box of tampons and were using then as rockets in the front yard. (oh, the embarassment!) We had to go into what they were used for and why they can't play with them (they were 5&6 at the time)

Tell him that mummy dropped a jar of coloured make up and cleaned it up with a pad. Change the subject and talk about the bath and where the water goes - anything to distract his little mind. It is not too late to say that even now a few days later and you could drop some make up in the bath and ask him to help you clean this second lot up. Mummy is a silly thing..... say things like that..............

The same thing happened to me when my niece was four. She totally freaked out, and thought I was going to die!
I just told her that I WASN'T going to die, and when her mommy came to pick her up, we explained in SMALL terms that it was a normal thing. All mommy-age women do this every once in a while, and it is normal.
You don't have to get really specific or detailed. Probably just knowing you aren't sick or bleeding to death, and that it is a normal thing, is enough at this age.

LOL better than when my daughter asked in a bus full of people "what do gay men do in bed" But honestly...just tell him that once a month woman have to get rid of the lining of womb where they make babies....if there are no babies in there than the food has to come out.. At 5 honesty is recommended in a normal tone of voice....kids are curious and stalling makes them thinks something wrong. when it isn't.

Just tell him that its part of the normal process for mommies to bleed that way, and the pad was a special kind of bandaid. Just make sure to make it sound very normal and non-painful so he won't freak out...

He is too little for details. Just tell him that you aren't sick and that is something that happens to ladies once a month. Tell him that there is nothing wrong with you at all.

Just say it's for mommies without mentioning anything about blood, periods or the menstrual period.
No need to be specific.
He'll forget about it in five minutes.

Tell him the truth. he'll be contemped at you not hiding anything.
I can still remember the times when i was five. I'd rather have known truths than ride on falsehoods until an embarrasing situation arises from not knowing.

Just tell him. He is going to learn sooner or later. Explaining it scientifically helps. Make sure he knows that you're not sick. You don't want him to worry.
