Is this your own cat? If so, take it to the Humane Society or your local animal shelter so they can try to find a home for it.
If it's not your own cat but one that's hanging around and bothering you, ask around first to see if it belongs to any of your neighbors. If you can't locate an owner, then call Animal Control or take it to a shelter.
If it's a feral cat and you can't catch it, set a box trap for it. That's like a wire cage, open on one end. You can get them at feed stores and I've seen them at Home Depot, too. You bait it by putting food in it - canned cat food will probably do nicely - and when the animal enters the trap after the food, it steps on a metal plate which causes the trap to close behind it. It doesn't hurt the cat at all, but it will likely be either very angry or very frightened, and in either case, it will be ready to scratch and bite. Call Animal Control and ask them to pick it up.

Call your local animal shelter for advice if it is your cat.

If you are feeding a stray cat that comes around, stop feeding it.

STRAY CATS: 2 cats entered our garage one night when the door was open and refused to leave the garage. I called the local animal shelter and was advised to post signs in the neighborhood to see if they belonged to anyone. I made signs on my computer describing the cats, leaving our telephone number and asked that they contact me by a certain date if they want their cat back. (If no one called, I planned to contact animal control again for further advice). A neighbor saw one of the posters and called us that evening. She explained that she is a volunteer who works with animal control (SPCA) and she manages the feral cats in our neighborhood -- the preferred way to keep feral cat population down. She had noticed when making her feeding rounds that those two cats had been missing for a few days.

To make a long story short, she brought over a cage set the trap, and within 2 nights caught the two cats and after noting that each cat had notched ears (indicating they had already been neutered), took them across the street and released them near the curb.

We are more careful about keeping the garage door closed unless someone is nearby or in the garage.

We had a very smart cat that loved to go under the house and could always get the hatch door open. We found that by laying out lemons cut in half (with the inside up), the cat stayed away. Go figure.

If you get rid of your cat, make sure you give it a portable laser to wear on its back. In the future, all American felines will be armed with WMDs just like their Middle Eastern counterparts
