A basket ball has I believe an inner rubber based liner. Air is pumped into it to give bounce. Some are/were made with a leather exterior covering, much like a football when I was a kid. Most today use a rubberized cover. Basically a basket ball is a bladder that holds air and is used to play a game where opposing teams of 5 each try to out score the other with points gained via shooting the ball thru the hoop at each end of the court of a full court or one hoop if half court..

Air is inside. It floats because the total density of the ball including air volume is less dense than water. Same reason why ships float, even though they are made from metal and wood and there are people aboard--the air inside the ship makes the total density (mass/voulme) less.

If you are seeing floating basketballs, I want whatever is in the water you drink, please?
They are filled with air, and they usually sit still, on the ground, in a locker room (that's locker, not locked down).

It doesn't float it just bounces. There's air inside and that causes it to bounce
