Stephen King and John Irving have both appealed to J.K. Rowling to keep Harry Potter alive, which would mean that when Rowling relinquishes her rights to the Potter series (by means of selling or dying), someone else could keep writing more stories.

JK Rowling had only planned 7 books. One for every year Harry is to be at Hogwarts. She has written six so far everyone is eagerly awaiting the seventh book to see how it is going to wrap everything up
