I bought a new pair of shoes today that I absolutely love, but the soles squeak horribly against my floor when I walk. Does anyone know of a way to stop the squeak? I can always return them, but I'd rather not if I can fix the problem instead. Thanks!

lightly sandpaper the bottom to get that plasticy film of the bottom that new shoes have sometimes

Honey, I had the same problem; I had a pair of beautiful size 13 burgandy shoes [boys like to look good too], and they squeaked. Well back then I roofed houses for a living and so I knew lots of little tricks; ok, so I put some oil in the bit that squeeked. It slightly darkened the look of the shoes a little [though that can be fixed, a bit, with powder].... But at the end of the day, honey, those beautiful shoes you've found will allways have a little flaw. I wish it were different. Next time forget beauty and just get rubber soles; it's the only way.

Cheap Squeaky Shoes

If it is just the soles that squeak, then buy some sole protectors (Dr. Scholls brand is one kind). You stick the strips to the soles of your shoes and they provide a cushioning layer. If the shoes themselves squeak (cheap patent leather does this) then return them since that is just a cheaply made shoe.

try rubbing them in talc powder and then cleaning it off

scratch soles on floor outside - as it'll grip - wont be able to return them though

rub the soles together, or on concrete, to rough them up a little. not too much, you dont want to chew them up, but it will stop the squeek
