ask someone who knows how to play a guitar even just an ordianry guitar. after you learned how to play an ordianry guitar, playing an electric guitar should be no problem. Don't forget "practice makes perfect".

Why did you buy it in the first place? Did it look "cool" in that last rock video you saw? Did you think that the guitar is a chick magnet?

get some lessons from a good teacher, even if its just a few to start.
Ask a music store in your area if they recomend anyone.
A few lessons for the basics will really get you kick started on your way.

Go to your local music shop and aquire about their lessons. Or if you are still in school talk to your music teacher and I am sure they would gladly help.
