I know all about monistat and the prescription drugs (I'm one of the unlucky women that gets chronic yeast infections. I've already been to the gyn, and she said it's just something that happens). But how do you deal with the "discomfort" and everything?

I have this same problem too! Aggh, it's so very frustrating, so I sympathize with you fully.

I started taking AZO YEAST tabs right before I get my period, which is when I usually get a yeast infection. This has helped. I also use Vagisil cream, and try to keep my bum as dry and as clean as possible by wearing a panty liner and changing it every hour or so.

I know diet can also effect the body ph, which is how yeast infections happen. Eating lots of plain yogurt with active/live cultures is helpful, as is reducing the ammount of sugar you eat when you have a yeast infection.

And get a new GYN, you should not have to "just live with this" problem.

Get a new gynecologist. 'Learn to live with it' is the biggest cop out for lazy or not current physicians.
There are stroger anti-fungal drugs available. Like the triazoles. (e.g. itraconazole, miconazole, ketoconazole), or tolnaftate. etc.etc. Or see an internist and get a complete medical workup. Persistent yeast infections can have many causes. For example there is an outside chance that you may be diabetic.
Get a checkup.

I went to WebMD and they recommended using boric acid capsules 2x a day, with 600 mg of boric acid in them, for 2 weeks. They are capsules but you put them in your vagina. I found these called: Yeast Arrest. Here is the website, maybe you can find them near you.

The owner of Vitanica answered my email even, and she said it works by re-acidifying your vagina.

You can save money if you can find boric acid and empty capsules, like in a health food store, and make your own.

This has helped me immensely. I also tried the same method with a supplement called PB8 which has the same bacteria as in yoghurt - but it's less messy than yoghurt.

Try it, I have had this annoying problem since April and I'm finally starting to feel normal again. I used all the OTC stuff, and I tried Diflucan twice but it never helped. I don't have health insurance, so I was left to my own devices, but if you do, just go to a different doctor. When a doctor says "it's just something that happens" they are just saying they don't know.

I think there are certain foods that you shouldn't eat and then some that you should eat to combat yeast infections. Your gyne doc should be able to direct you in the right direction. I've been fortunate and never have had that problem but one of my best friends goes through hell and back with it.

I suggest at a minimum taking Shaklee's all natural Optiflora. This advanced, two-product system uses new technology to protect beneficial microflora during the rigors of shipping, storage, and the acidic journey through your stomach. Other products claim live microflora at the time of manufacture. Shaklee guarantees the delivery of live microflora (500 million) to your intestines. This is a patented supplement.

This two-product systems includes Probiotic (Bifidus & Acidophilus...microflora) + Prebiotic (FOS...food source for microflora).

Also, Garlic Complex which destroys yeast overgrowth.

Other supplements that would also be beneficial are:
Vita-C, Zinc and Nutriferon (builds & strengthens immune system)
B-Complex (increases absorption)

You need to get a second opinion. No one needs to suffer through chronic yeast infections. Maybe you have diabetes and don't know it. Diabetics, who have high blood sugar, often suffer until they get their blood sugar under control. There could be a number of underlying medical problems that no one has detected. Some natural remedies that you might incorporate into your diet would be Goldenseal, Bilberry, Tea Tree, Flax, and Garlic. Drink plenty of water and green tea which cleans the insides of your body and helps fight free radicals. Often, when we eat less than perfect, our bodies are not healthy and need clean, pure, foods to help keep it clean. Changing your diet to a healthier one that is rich in brightly colored fruits, vegies, berries, that are high in fiber, soy products, fish, chicken, and whole wheat, whole grain high fiber foods will help your body heal itself.
