She should see a doctor. There is a good chance that she has one or more microorganism infection(s). Fishy odor is caused by a group of bacteria called Gardnerella (about 5 of them). It also makes the vaginal fluid turn milky or gray. It should be transparent. There may also be a yeast infection which would require another antibiotic. Incidentally all partners should be treated at the same time, to avoid ping-pong reinfection.
A doctor will take cutltures and then treat her appropriately.
Cranberry juice does work against E. coli bacterial infection. but not many other bugs.

I would probably douche with a quart of warm water, a tablespoon of vinegar and a tablespoon of yoghurt. Around your period, the ph value of the vagina can change and make it easy for yeast to overgrow. You have to re-acidify it to counteract the yeast. You can also try this supplement called Yeast Arrest. I've tried it and the package insert recommends using it for 4 days of your period to prevent re-occuring yeast infections.

But the odor problem suggest that it is not a yeast infection. Dan S is right, odor suggests a different infection. So see a doctor, if you can.

See a doctor and disclose all symptoms, no matter how minor they seem. The doctor can run tests and see what the real problem is.
AZO YEAST and AZO CRANBERRY are great homeopathic medications to help with the symptoms of a yest infection. And someone already mentioned this, but keep as clean and as dry as possible.
But really, go to the doctor.
