I would go down to the social security office and show them the documents that you have and try to figure it out with them. You are not saying what your age is, but usually if you are under 18, you can have this fixed fairly easily. Your mother should go with you to explain the circumstances surrounding the mix up. I had different names on both of my documents too when I was 17 but that was due to an adoption that had not been completed and I was going by a different name. I wound up having to do a legal name change. Good luck with this, I know it is frustrating, but I am sure if you dig deep enough and throw a fit to the right person at SS you will get it taken care of.

1.) Do you have a US ID? And do you have your mother's maiden name and the name of both adoptive and biological father. I am not sure if they will give you the Original Birth Certificate or the Amended Birth Certificate. I might help if your parents went with you. Or it is easier to order it by mail or on the internet but I'd have to get the info from my Aunt through my father (that's how they got my brother's birth certificate) When I got around to getting my son's birth certificate all I needed was his date of birth and both parents name and an state ID or marriage certificate. It cost about $35

If you are under 18, in many states your parent can 'vouch' for you as a form of ID. Some will also take scool picture in an annual as well as recent mail sent to you, pay stubs, etc. You may need to do a legal name change, so you should contact your local district court to ask about that..

call you local social security office and explain that you name on you ss card is misspelled an that you need to get it changed to the right spelling. they will tell you what you would have to bring in and what forms you have to fill out. If it is misspelled on you birth certificate then you need to contact vital statistics of your state to find out how to get it corrected on your birth certificate.

You will need to take your birth certificate to the nearest SS office. If you do not live near one call them and find out where to mail the birth certificate and SS card to get them to match. Whatever you do if you mail it, mail it CERTIFIED MAIL, RETURN RECEIPT REQUESTED and photo copy your request along with photocopying your original birth certificate and SS card.

UMMMM Lets see,,,, I think you need to make your mom fix this problem. If she refuses, or just makes excuses then go to your local social security office. Then your mom won't have a choice but to fix the problem.
