30 years ago people would say don't do drug because drugs kill and they would show you people on drugs. Those same people that were on drugs then are still living and atill doing drugs. Older people are living longer on prescription drugs.

Drugs do indeed kill. Prescription drugs, if overdosed or used inappropriately, can kill the person taking them (sometimes even if the person uses the drug correctly, the side effects can still hurt or kill them). Illegal drugs, such as cocaine or heroin do kill people. Cocaine can cause heart attacks, and heroin will depress your respiratory system so much that you stop breathing. Drugs like Ecstasy can cause uncontrollable hyperthermia to the point that you can die. Other drugs like meth can cause you to do things that can harm yourself and others. Same as for any drug with hallucinogenic properties. Also, illegal drugs are often cut with things such as rat poison. That is not good for you! Even pot, seemingly benign, has more far more carcinogenic in it than cigarettes do.
There are always a few lucky people that have been doing illegal drugs for years and are fine. These are the vast majority. Most people experience temporary or permanent health problems from the use of illegal drugs.
And it's true, that people are living longer on prescription drugs, but drugs prescribed by a doctor and illegal drugs taken on the street are two completely different things.
Hope this helps!

you have to differentiate between "drugs". its not like all illicit drugs are the same anymore than tylenol and cough syrup and allergy medicine is the same.

some drugs are dangerous if you are a high risk person for that drug. example: xtc is dangerous for people on ssri meds. coke is dangerous for ppl with heart probs. but really it depends on what drug you are talking about here.

questions like yours are good because they show free thought on your part, so congrats. there is a massive amount of anti-grug propaganda from the govt, and a good deal of it is outright lies (like mdma puts holes in your brain or pot makes you crazy like in 'reefer madness' etc.)
