I just closed on my home on June 23rd. I had a home inspection done prior and flooding did not appear to be an issue. Two days ago, there were some pretty heavy rainfalls and the next morning, the back portion of the basement had about 1-2 in of water. Someone told me that this should have been disclosed and I have legal recourse. Is this true? This property was an estate sale and I signed that I agreed to take on all repairs. What to do?

it sounds like the sump pump is bad. and that's a hard thing to notice since it is covered. unless you noticed water at the time of your walk through its hard to say . its just on oversight on the walk through because if the basement is dry at the time of the walk through you would never suspect that it could be bad.
and honestly , i think most people would not think to test it considering it was dry at the time.
or maybe its not a pump issue and the floor isn't pitched right?
its hard to say.

is the sump pump working? was the electricity off for some time?
its hard to say if you weren't there. you can check the pump now. also look to see if the clocks are wrong. look at the microwave or oven clock to tell if the power went out.
look at your inspection report for sump pump check.
Where you there during the inspection?
