I hang dry stuff I don't want to shrink, like jeans. The dryer always seems to shrink those things.
Cold water may help too, but I think the line drying thing has more influence than the temperature of the water.

Yeah, generally if you wash new clothes in hot water, they'll tend to shrink more than in cool water. I think the heat you dry them in is even more critical. Don't blast the dryer real hot if you think the item will shrink.

turn your clothes inside out, machine wash and hang to dry.
if u still think they're a little small, when u take them out of the wash, stretch them out, tug on them, and then hang to dry.
NO HOT WATER, it will shrink your clothes incredibly! Cold water all the way.
if your clothing is cotton, it will take very LONG for it to dry.

yes cold water helps because hot water shrinks your clothes and the dryer shrinks them as well.

Cold water, delicate cycle, air dry or lowest temperature in the dryer.
Of course, it depends on the fabric. Some fabrics must be hand washed or dry cleaned.

cold water helps and dry them on low or medium heat (high heat will shrink as well) or even hang to dry, depending on what it is.

I don't dry them completely in the drier, I take them out and hang them when they are still humid.
