Not only marijuana but all drugs.
It's unamerican to make something illegal because it has a possibility of hurting you. Seriously, by the argument they have against drugs, driving cars should be outlawed. So should going to the doctor and by far drinking and smoking ciggerettes.
The basic fact is, especially to all you people who agree that drugs should be illegal, is that the drug laws have killed more people, costed more money and funded more corruption and violence than any drug ever has.
Why shouldn't I smoke pot? Why not? I can get stoned. I never shot anyone while stoned. Hell I never even broke a law while stoned, other than the drug law itself.
I never hurt anyone.
1 puff of a joint alters your mind? And one beer doesn't? What kind of logic is that.
Alcohol has a significant effect on the brain, but not only on the perception based sections, but also on the physical control parts.
1 beer (depending on your size and weight) can equate anywhere from barely noticable to illegally intoxicated.
I have seen people pound the equivalent of 20 beers in an hour (20 shots of hard liquor) and be wasted, but still capable of walking and talking.
On the other hand I have seen people barely walking after 2 beers. Usually girls who really should not of been at any party...ever.
The point of the story is that saying that alcohol doesn't have a serious impact on your mental state of mind is like saying not breathing doesn't make you pass out. Sure if you hold your breath for 30 seconds you'll be fine, but if you can't breath for 10 mintues your going out.
Besides tobacco and alcohol deaths out weigh the illicit drug deaths by huge factors, on the scale of 20 or 30 to one.

Beach needs to speak for herself, I rarely drink and 1 beer makes me feel all funny. Therefore yes 1 beer can make you unable to drive in some people.
I think that marijuana should be legal and regulated the same way that alcohol is because first of all there have been no reported overdose on marijuana and for goodness sakes, If it were legal we could have a bunch of people with higher incomes and the government would get its tax money from it. Also it would be regulated and harder for the drug to get in the hands of children.

"pot alters the mind and harms the body but beer don"t? "One toke off a joint gets you high"? Come on beach bum get a clue. All I have to say is I've never been abused by a pot head, I've never lost a family member by pots effect on the body. Can you say the same about alcohol? I for one would like my tax dollars going to something other than "The war on drugs". If people want to abuse drugs, alcohol etc.... then let them. Its their life. Be a responsible parent and supervise your children teach them all you can and hope they don't abuse any of these substances but if their going to then nothing is going to stop them legal or illegal. I say Legalize it NOW!!! But this will never happen, why? Because all the BIG drug companys don't want it to happen and as long as they keep putting big bucks in politicians pockets, pot will be illlegal.

no government has the right to tell you what you can or can't put in your own body as an adult. alcohol and tobacco are regulated legal substances, both can be addictive and cause damage. Why is marijuana any different? Probably because tobacco lobbyists pay lawmakers a lot of money to keep it illegal so they won't have any competition.

Yes, alcohol kills brain cells, pot just alters it. Why do you think booze gives you a hangover and pot does not? The indians did it, the president did it, almost everyone is doing it! My Grandpa could of used some while he was in pain. So many doctors are for it but are afraid to speak up.If you watch those cop shows you do not see as many pot smokers as boozers. They are too paranoid to drive the boozers are the ones getting violent. Who is the dork who said it was a gateway drug? I know many successful, kind, healthy people who smoke weed.
I think I will go watch WEEDS ;)

Yes. Instead of spending millions of dollars on ads against marijuana use, the U.S. government can put a tax on marijuana just like they do with tobacco and create millions of dollars in revenue and help erase our national deficit.

all drugs used to be legal at one point (not that long ago really) and they were accessable to everyone. so aside from most of society walking around in a haze i see that coming back because when you make things legal in turn the government makes money off the taxing, people maybe less likely to do them as it's no longer the thrill of doing something naughty, and there would be less crime do to "bad deals".

It is very simple and I don't understand why ppl ask this question so often.
Marijuana can not be made legal because it is a drug that alters the mind and does harm to the body even when used in MODERATION.
In layman's terms, one beer does no harm to your body and does not get you high, whereas, one toke off of a joint does.

but I guess if it was in the privacy of your own home, your over 21, and you don't drive when stoned, tax the hell out of it then pack it up like cigarettes lol
oh and stiff penalties for underage use and driving when high and what not.
