I've found that the best way to research the value of old sports cards is to see what people are paying for them on eBay or other auction sites. This seems to be one of the best measures of actual market price and demand. The price guides that are available at bookstores will give you an inflated valuation of each card. Typically, sports card dealers will only give you 10-20% of book value, if they are interested in the cards. I recommend that you sell the cards through an on-line auction site or by consigning them through an antique dealer. Good luck!

Buy a Beckett Book, it is a magazine. It can usually be found at Quick Trip if you have one in your area. You will look up your card by the year on the card, the brand name of card and then you will look for the players name. It explains how to use it in the very front. If you do not have a Quick Trip you can find it at your local book store for sure.

Condition, condition, condition in addition to rarity, manufacturer, player, etc. You may want to check eBay to get an idea of worth.
You could join PSA (Professional Sports Authenticator), the most respected card authenticator. They will grade the card for you, which helps determine value. PSA is recognized by everyone.
