As a guess I would say that the pilot light goes on & tries to fire but that the automatic damper is not opening so then as a safety the pilot stops. Then it may try to do it oven again. The damper is in the flue a the top of the heater. Sometimes it sticks. You can try to unstick it by just touching it lightly. It may also stop in an open possition.
If it is closed you may not see it but look in the pipe at the top of the heater. There is a space between the top of the heater & the exahust pipe. It would be best to have this looked at by a proffesional
