Not all Saddlebreds rack. Some can rack naturally and you can train a Saddlebred to rack. Quite a large number do rack though. If you are looking to buy a horse, keep in mind that a Saddlbred that has been trained to rack or at least has good racking ability will carry a much higher price tag compared to one that has not been trained or cannot rack. If you dont know how to ride Saddleseat or a Saddlebred, most people start out on a three gaited saddlebred first. It is important that you develop the quality for riding the three gaits found in almost every breed: the walk, trot, and canter. Something that helped me was that I have been riding English for almost 15 years and I learned quite a few tricks to calming that hyper horse in that disciplined that I carried over into Saddleseat. Like what is called the half-halt. I dont know a single Saddlebred/Saddleseat trainer that incorporates that into their riding programs. After you are comfortable in your Saddleseat lessons, I suggest going and taking a few Hunt Seat lessons. The leg position is not that much different between the two. Crosstrain yourself as much as possible.

Saddlebreds can be taught to slow gait and rack but not all do. Some have more talent than others.
And hunt seat/saddle seat is *not* alike. It's two different types of riding. Saddle seat, with a higher headed horse, your hands are higher, and post less off the feet than hunt seat, with a longer stirrup. Proper position is not the same.

No only specially trained Saddlebreds can rack the rest are three-gaited which means in shows they exhibit the walk, trot and
canter.
I love Saddlebreds.
