Baseball plays way to many games for players to go out and shake hands after every game...

It can take several minutes just to shake hands with players on their OWN team... by that time, the other team is outta there...

It's good to have kids do that after games as a sign of respect for your opponent, but at the professional level, the respect is already there by virtue of making it to the major leagues.

Hockey is really the only pro sport (team sports) in the U.S. that does make a ritual out of the season-ending handshake... players do it in the NBA, but they do it spontaneously after a playoff series is over.

Football players also shake hands after a game, but again, it's all spontaneous, not a required ritual.

Plus, in baseball, much of the congratulatory handshaking goes on by visiting the other locker room after a playoff series or the World Series is over.

You're teaching kids the game of baseball as a whole, and good sportsmanship is part of that. As adults, they should know better on their own. Often you will see players talking and shaking hands if you're around at batting practice, etc.

bcuz peeps think once u're a professional player, u act "professional" (jus look at the sooooo many arguments baseball players have!!!)

they want to teach this to little kids so they can be professional. works half the time. i beleive they should shake hands. and if they don't, they are suspended

I think that is a great idea. That shows that these players don't have sportsmanship. Many sports have this tradition.

Because with kids its about teaching them the game and sportsmanship.

When you get to the professional level, winning and losing does matter.

kids have to learn sportsmanship crap like that, but in the majors and minors the losing team gets depressed while the winners celebrate.
