To be a self-confident yet empathetic and socially aware participant in the world.

Last time I checked, those qualities make for a pretty good woman too.

Ah yes. Gender. Well, if you're referring to sex, you can check your pants. Or your chromosomes. And hope that those two match up. If you mean gender, then there's probably some innate gender identity. Beyond that, there's 100% societal influence, which is completely arbitrary and frankly a load of BS. Specifics vary even up to the locality, but generally in Western Society there's physical strength, aggression, competitiveness, heterosexuality, financial success....the list goes on.

Its changed, a man used to be respectable and have morals. Nowadays a man is a person who dosn't have to have morals or repect for anyone. Men do as they please when they want!
To be a man in this day and age is not what it used to be!

a "man" would know, most of the time.

the macho-man sort of thing definitely isn't what the majority of intelligent people are looking for these days--being smart and funny, protecting and nice... those seem to be in high demand.
