I am trying to bring my dingy tank tops back to their original white color...I followed the directions and the tops were very stinky afterward. Do the scented chlorine bleaches whiten very well without leaving too strong of a scent??? As you can tell, I'm kinda new to the whole bleaching process. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I never use bleach in cloths, over time it will yellow them, I have gone to OXICLEAN. Everytime I have a load of white I fill washer and add extra Oxiclean and then cloths, I agitate the washer for a few min. then turn off washer and leave lid up and soak them for awhile (few hours or so )....There is something out there that works great also for soaking whites BUT IT STINKS BAD. Its called Iron out. You can get it at a hardware store. but you would want to soak the outside and be careful no to breath fumes. Thats good for really dingy whites.
Oxiclean is really great tho.

Good luck

That's the chlorine smell. Use the scented bleaches. Clorox makes a few different scents. Or just run them through the rinse cycle a couple of extra times to rinse them really well. Dry them with a few dryer sheets. You shouldn't notice the smell so much after that.

Clorox is the best bleach on the market. A small amount will do the trick and it now comes in different fragrances. Second to Clorox is OxyClean and not the knock-off brands. The foam takes every stain out- use a toothbrush or rub in the foam. OxyClean even removes old stains such as blood and formula and brightens whites. OxyClean is odorless.

Bleach should not smell stinky. Bleach should smell like bleach. Are you using too much? I've found that different brands of bleach including store brands and name brands are the same. You could try bleach for colors and see if you like that better.

Buy Mrs. Stewart's Liquid Bluing.... it's in a little blue plastic bottle in the laundry supplies aisle at the stores.... a few drops in the rinse cycle of your white loads will make all the white clothes look like new again.

There are lemon scented bleaches readily available -- even at Safeway.

You might be using too much bleach for the application...

Have you tried PEROXIDE applied directly to the stain?
It is cheap and doesn't leave a smell.
