It's not just our 'US friends', it's everyone including you.

What does 'excepting' mean?????? You mean 'accepting' surely - or 'except'.

Hahaha. I can't believe the number of people who are trying to correct your grammar when it's completely right!!

Anyway, to answer your question:
1) Many words are spelt differently in American English compared to English
2) Many Americans are stupid
3) Many Americans are lazy
4) Many of them think it's cool to spell incorrectly
5) Many of them think that as long as the message gets across, nothing else matters.

Unfortunately points 2 to 5 include lots of English people too, just look around on yahoo answers!

To begin with, my US friends don't have spelling mistakes. Maybe it's yours. Besides, why do you care so much about spelling. That's entirely unimportant. As long as the ideas are okay, and the spelling is not so bad you cannot even understand, I don't give a damn about the way the message was written. Spelling changes, and it's your US friends who are doing it. There's nothing bad with that.
