Hauling = all 4 wheels of the hauled vehicle are off the ground, the hauled vehicle is on a truck or trailer.
Towing = 2 or more of the towed vehicle's wheels are on the ground, while it is pulled by another vehicle.
You can tow a car behind another vehicle, or you haul the car on a trailer that is being towed!

I guess technically, you would haul something in or on the pull vehicle and would tow something behind the vehicle.
I say that I "haul" cars... when indeed I tow them on a trailer behind my truck. I have never thought of that, when I ran heavy equipment the large trucks we used to move dirt were called HAUL trucks.... Now you got me thinking... but of course I guess I blow my "technical" explanation out of the window with the roll back "tow" trucks that haul a car on the back....
I will say in today society nothing is the difference =)

Towing is normally when you are pulling something behind another vehicle...such as a boat trailer or a broken down car.
Hauling could at times mean this as well, but is normally used to describe transporting items in the vehicle that you are traveling in...for example...hauling boxes in the back of a truck...hauling my friend's furniture to help him move in...etc.
Good question...hope I've helped with my opinion.

I think when you haul something, you put it in your vehicle. When you are towing something it goes on your tow ball,on the back of your vehicle.

"Hauling" is carrying something in the bed of your truck. "Towing" is usually when you are pulling something with your hitch. Like a Ford truck that broke down. Either way there about the same.
