It's probably easiest before the baby arrives if you have time. After you have your baby you'll be so busy and tired it will be harder. I think most people understand and wouldn't be offended if you were a little late in sending them. Plus I'm sure that you were cordial enough at the shower and thanked everyone then.

The cards should be sent out about a week after the shower, after everything is organized, to make sure that no one was forgotten.

who cares about thank you cards? Can't you just thank everyone at the shower? That's what I'm going to do.

Yes that would be the polite thing to do but if you're too busy you can wait until after the baby is here

whenever you feel like it i'd wait at least two weeks after shower though

1-2 weeks if you feel up to it, Let people know sooner rather than later that you appreciated their kindness.
