I don't know your story; however, you have to start at the beginning.
1) Why did you change the Alternator & battery to begin with?
2) You have one of two problems,
a) Your alternator is installed improperly or/and the voltage regulator isn't working.
b) You have a load on the battery that exceeds your alternator ability to charge the battery and is discharging the system.
Check that there isn't something on or shorted that is draining the battery,
Check that the alternator is working when the engine is running, the voltage should be 13.5-14.5 Vdc.
From the form of your question I really believe you need to get a competent mechanic to help you.
Yours: Grumpy
The car is dying because the voltage gets too low to operate the ignition.

Do you have anything hooked up that might be drawing alot of amps. Maybe a stereo amp. Thats the usual problem when theres an alternator problem. Also check for any connections that might be in bad shape. Look for any positive wires on the entire car-under the hood in perticular- that might be coming in contact with the body (the ground) of the car causing a short.
Also is the replacement alt the right replacement? Double check that along with the battery size.
If the alternators positive cable that runs to the battery isnt connected right due to corrosion, bad ends, or is maybe its broken in the middle somewhere that would explain why the alt isnt charging the battery and you have to jump it after you have it running.
Another thing to check is the pulley size on the alt. By some freak chance is it smaller than the original? If it is its underdriving the alternator. Doubtful but Im trying to think of anything here.
How bout your fuses? Give those a once over.
If all else fails just limit your trips in the car to 5-10 minute trips and carry jumper cables. ;)

Sounds like a short in your wiring harness. The alternator isn't getting pwr to the field, or the output isn't getting to the battery. Either way you need an auto electrician.

what kind of vehicle would help but your alternator isnt working. several reasons come to mind but the first thing to check is when you turn the key to the "run" position, not crank, look and see if the light or gauge is working, if its not thats the first place i would look. let me know what kind of vehicle it is and i can help as i am a specialist in the 12/24/36 volt industry
