I have a Viewsonic PJ402D projector.
When I connect it to the PC, it works just fine.
However when I connect it to my laptop, it always says that the source is lost and it searches for the source. This is the second time that this problem is occuring, I mean, the second laptop, on which it's not working. Please, reply quickly, it's really important coz i have a presentation to do...

It's the laptop that doesn't see the projector, not the other way around.

More accurately, the laptop isn't sending a signal to the video port. This is normal, so you have to tell the laptop to do so.

If you look at your function keys (F1, F2 etc.), one of them (often F5 but not always) should have an icon on it that looks like two monitors with a slash between them. Press Fn+(that key). You may have to do it more than once as the laptop will cycle among the video output being laptop only/projector only/laptop + projector/some other combination.

Good luck!

Projector Not Working With Laptop

When you plug in any new hardware into your laptop or desktop it needs a driver to run that hardware properly. Your laptop is not detecting your LCD projector because of this reason. So before you plug in your projector run the software that came with it which installs drivers for your LCD. If you don't have software CD then go to the web site of the company which manufactured the LCD projector and download the drivers for your LCD. Good Luck

If you don't get the message"New Hardware Detected" when you plug the projector into the laptop, you probably don't have the drivers for the projector loaded into the laptop and the computer doesn't recognize the projector. After your finished using the projector, be sure to disconnect it properly from the laptop. There is an icon in the tray, "Safely Remove Hardware". De-activate the projector BEFORE you pull out the USB cable from the laptop.

The input port on the second computer may be defective, or you have drivers on the first that you don't have on the second.
Are you using the same cable on both?

You may very well have an intermittent connection on the laptop with the problem.
And installing the drivers, in some cases it is recommended NOT to have the hardware connected when installing it. That varies from equipment to equipment but could be the problem.
If you use the video out that usually has the monitor on it, check whether on of the pins on the projector cable may be damaged.
