usually go about a size larger than the age. For 12 month old go with 18-24 months size, unless the baby was a preemie or extra small.

It depends on the size of the baby.

In the U.S. they label them by months. 0-3, 3-6, 6-9, 9-12, 12-18.

A 1-year old would wear between a 9-12 and 12-18. Look at the weight requirements on the clothing. That will give you a hint as well.

A small one wears 6 to 12 months, a larger one wears 12 to 18 months. You really can't go wrong right now buying a 1 yr. old some fall clothes in size 12 to 18 months.

At 1 yr old my son was wearing 2t-3t b/c he was so tall. He was already wearing a size 7-7.5 shoe by then. He is now 2 and it is even worse. My cousin though was wearing 6-9 months when he was 1. The differences in children can be quite amazing.

Not all babys are the same size. My first son at age one wore a size two. My daughter and other son at age one wore 18 month clothing. My youngest grandaughter was one of the rare people who wore size 1 at size at size 1.
Some babies aren't all that big but they have a long torso and need a bigger size.

As a rule there is no rule

well it depends on the baby, my daughter is almost one and she is still in 6-9 month baby clothes. but some babies are bigger and are wearing 12 month clothes or bigger. if you are buying a gift for someone your best bet would be to get something bigger than 12 months, that way they wont have already out grown it, and if they are too small for it, they will grow into it.

supposedly 12 months, but my daughter always wore bigger(around 18 months) at 1 y/o. And my son is 6 months and he wears a 12 month shirt. Just depends on the child.

My sons were all 24 months to 2T at a year. I had chunky monkeys, LOL! My friend has a petite little girl and she's still wearing 9 months, so I'm confident babies are in all shapes and sizes at a year. They even out more by kindergarten.
