Some people are just introverts. I have to really gear up for a party and it cannot be sprung on me at last minute. Try reading the book Introvert Advantage. It will help you understand yourself and perhaps help with your phobia of parties.

When you can have a large amount of alcohol and it still has no affect on you, this makes you an alcohol. I'm guessing your really self concious constantly thinking that everyones thinking watchin or talkin about you, when the truth is the arent they couldnt give a flyin fig if superman came to the party cause they will be that pissed. You may also be claustraphobic which you start to pani when loads of people are around you, cause i get it sometimes i feel enclosed when theres too many people around. Just go to the party to night and stop worrying what other people are thinking, sit back with your mates have a drink have a dance and most importantly have a laugh!

If you could figure out why you really hate to go to parties, that would be very helpful to you.I must add, it is nice of you to make an appearance for your friends sake in spite of your anxiety.A lot of work goes into putting on a party. I love parties because I love hors'doeuves and I think "maybe tonight I will meet the best friend I have ever had, or maybe just someone interesting" Are you shy? I was very shy once and understand that, but as I grew older I learned to take the focus off myself and concentrate on the person I am speaking with. Let them talk, but ask them questions about themselves.ie. Where do you live? Do you like living in that town?, have you lived other places?, do you have kids?, do you work at home or outside the home?, do you have hobbies?, etc..There are a lot of people who are shy and nervous about get togethers. Maybe you could ease someone elses anxiety by talking to them first. Yes, I know it is hard. I used to get the shakes just thinking about talking to someone. I felt the fear and did it anyway.

Sometimes you just have to endure that Mandatory Party as part of your employment, for a special occasion (like someone's wedding) or something else. I usually do this Mandatory things because I have to -- and realize that this is something that must be done -- but I do not have to stay all the time. I do what is considered polite -- meet/greet, listen to the speaker (or the event), then excuse myself and head home.

Is it just parties and bars or is it public in general. If it is public in general you need to see a doctor. If it is just bars, that is fine. Perhaps you are an introvert and prefer to be somewhere more quiet. Stay away from them!

don't go to the party tonight. do some research over the weekend and find a class or therapist that you can talk to about your fears. you are missing out on some of the best times of your life.

Maybe you are an introvert like me. Introverts just don't like parties and things like that. I have learned to accept that I am not the "typical" young person who loves partying and drinking.

My advice would be to go to the party and try to have some fun.
Who knows? The social butterfly may kick in!

What's your question?
If you don't feel comfortable going, don't.
However, you might have social anxiety disorder, so you should talk to a doctor.
