i'll hope your not being facetious... but that is the hardest thing. there is no plan. i've been meaning to start composting for weeks. but the sad truth is, there is always too much to choose from. the happy truth, is that means there are millions of places to start all the time.
why not start by buying a reusable bag to do your shopping with? then you can rest assured you never need to use or throw away a bag from the grocery store. tiny things add together, but they are usually not the most personally satisfying or heroic thing you could do. it is always a journey. when i bought one, i wound up needing four to leave in the car so i wouldn't need to work at remembering them. so, you could also break into my car and take an extra.
"Live life, then, with a due sense of responsibility, not as men who do not know the meaning and purpose of life but as those who do. Make the best use of your time, despite all the difficulties of these days. "

I was gonna say, turn to the other side and get back to sleep, but plating trees as suggested above is a redeming act which I support.
Now you have to get someone's permit to dig anf plant. Maybe do an environmental impact study. I hope not.

Do the research, there are many organizations dedicated to the environment, health, and the improvement of local communities. There is a terrific need for volunteers, and you can make a difference. Good luck.

*Shakes his head sadly no*. I too, have had that urge, many times.
Then G-d said "Larry, can't do it- and heres why"
"Why, God?" I asked
"Because if I save the world, then I shall have eliminated free will and free choice- so, in spite of the evil, the uglyness and the bad things, people need to be exposed and experience these things so they will grow. Nobody grows without pain"

The problems of this world start in the minds of men. Each one of us needs to beging by changing him or herself. Our monster egos make us believe that we have the right world view. It is implicit in this view that everyone else's view is deeply flawed.
So you see the fault may not lie with the world but in fact with our perception of what the world should look like.
Start with the self.
