I feel really bad for him. When his movie about Christ came out, he was interviewed many times. I noticed that he seemed to be on the edge because of his staccato speech and eye movements. something has gone wrong in this man's life and it is not our place to judge him. Even if he said gosh awful things, we need to mind our own business and let this man get on with the business of rebuilding himself. He has contributed well to our society for many years.
If we cannot offer him support, get out of his way. He has a difficult path to follow. Good luck, Mel.

You tell me. If if were me that had driver 87 miles per hour in a 45 mile an hour zone, was drunk, had an open container, and resisted arrest and was belligerent, I would still be in jail. And I would have been charged with drunk driving, the open container, speeding, reckless driving and assault on an officer and God knows what else. This is not Mel's first such incident either. He has been an on and off alcoholic for years. With all of his money, you would have thought he could afford the best treatment on earth. Anyone and everyone with money, power and influence gets away with anything including murder (i.e.O.J. et al) in this country. How fair is that. He will serve no jail time and get probation. He could have easily killed someone else while driving like that. An apology is meaningless. Not to mention what ever racial slurs he threw around. Now his "people" are trying to say it was the booze. B.S. Whatever a person is and or feels will come out when they are drunk. Not to mention he is married and the Father of several children and here he was carousing in a bar with several young women before he drove home. Great. Just great. I, personally am sick to death of this type of behavior. Yes, those in the public limelight are held to a higher standard. Hell, this is crap behavior for anyone. An apology. Oh boy, now all is forgiven. lol Screw him. He has a hundred times more in life than most people will ever have. And this is what he chooses to do with his life? Brother. Do you now how many hundreds of people are killed every year by drunk drivers? Great role model for his children and great husband. Swell guy. Let's all kiss and make up. lol

Well yes!! I mean look at how many people were pissed at him for making the film "The Passion of the Christ".
I think he had balls and I did enjoy the film. However so many wanted to cut his head off before the film even came out.
Personally I don't see what they were talking about when they said the film was being racist, unless the were talking about that demon hiding under the bridge that scared the heck out of me.
It's really much ado about nothing.
So he made a film, so he had a drink and got pissed and said something to the cop, heck I have done it too.

I dont know. But they need to get over it cuz lots of people drink and drive. The press just keeps getting on his case but they gotta realize just cuz he's a rich and famous guy, doesn't mean he never breaks the law. I mean, Mel Gibson is a human too. The poor guy....they needa leave him alone!!

A storm in a tea cup. Given Israel's appalling invasion of Lebanon and murder of hundreds of innocents, I empathise with Mel completely.

I agree with Chazerai. There's an old Latin expression "in vino veritas," meaning "there is truth in wine." He wouldn't have made anti-Semitic remarks unless he truly felt that way, regardless of how intoxicated he may have been.
I also agree with Island Queen that drunk driving is no minor offense. He could have easily killed someone.

Of course they do. I totally agree with you, enough is enough. I am constantly seeing him on T.V apologizing. I have yet to see Courtney love saying "I'm sorry" For her antics. I know he is an icon but REMEMBER people he is HUMAN!!!! You go Mel!!!!

Does any one really care?
He's an actor and director and he has a private life too. I had a mother-in-law who wouldn't let her children watch Elizabeth Taylor films on TV because she was divorced (several times).

Truth comes out under the influence.
When MG weas making the "Passion" movie, many folks claimed that he was an anti-Semite.
Based on what he said when he was arrested, they were correct.
When you get drunk do you say what MG said?

You can not buy your way out of antisemetic remarks! These are the beliefs he has. Drunks usually say what they believe without censoring themselves!
