I've noticed that many of the questions and answers here are barely understandable. I've also noticed that many of them seem to be written by younger people. What has happened that people no longer strive to come across intelligent?

I'm glad it bothers somebody besides me. I actually had a girl send me nasty, obscenity-filled emails because I commented on her spelling!!

Many more young people today apparently are just lazy and see no value in good grammar/spelling. They are in a hurry to get their point across and don't seem to care if they swear, misspell, or use poor grammar. I think they believe that it won't matter when they get out into the real world and search for a job, but to me it is very important.

To me it is an indication of not paying attention in school and/or the schools not stressing grammar, spelling, and correct punctuation as much as in the "old" days.

And by the way, I work at a high school and see this in kids who are seniors. Pretty sad!

Ebonics has taken over the world. In public schools Teachers are no longer required to teach Phonics. So since the majority of the writers are younger people they are also the ones that attend these schools so they are the ones that's getting the short end of the stick also to add insult to this some of these preteens and teenagers parents attended the same schools and they probably got shafted to. EBONICS HAS TAKEN OVER

It's "cool" be seem ignorant. If they keep it up, it'll not only be cool, it'll be TRUE.

That's what happens when you determine that it's somehow unfair to keep a child back when he/she is failing. Do NOT, under any circumstances allow the child to feel that it has failed. Egos MUST be bolstered or little Johnny might feel inferior. Sadly, all that happens is that sharp little Betsy gets shafted and little Johnny doesn't get the help he needs.

Disgusting! Why do you think that more and more families each year home school? Or bust their *ahems* to afford private schooling? Who wants to spend a quarter million dollars raising a kid who ends up functionally illiterate and incapable of earning a good living?

Supposedly they do prepare "english" in school yet so a techniques as i will tell grammar isn't an element of the curriculum. it is likewise no longer limited to this internet site yet in society as an entire. It bothers me whilst a information correspondent makes use of slang.

I'm with you, Iridescence. I'm 52 and am aghast at it, but bear in mind, some of these people are just rushing through answering questions typing as fast as they can omitting spell checks and good grammar trying to scrape up as many points as they can to reach higher levels. That's my optimistic hope....because if it really a reflection of the educational delivery to these people these days, I'm terrified~!@$#^%&*()_!#@$^%!!!!!

after we had a lot of immigrants, and english was put on the back burner. but i think that many people on here are from different countries, so their english is not as well as ours. so i think that we should cut them a little slack. but it makes me shiver, when a 16 year old american asking questions that are not proper english.

Pop-culture and laziness happened. I'm sure everyone will just tell you to lighten up though. I think it's odd when some one just doesn't bother to press the other two buttons in the word your and just type "ur".

Don't worry, they were always there, it's just that in the past they spent their lives driving a broom about, not trying to type at a keyboard.
