The real answer is "it depends" because there are many factors such as interference, signal reflection and absorbtion through walls, as well as the receive sensitivity of the radios. You can probably expect to have a working signal within 200 feet of the access point in most home setups. Could be 100 feet or 300 feet depending on your specific situation. To really tell, walk around the entire area and watch the signal strength/quality vary and see how far away you can get. You can also usually buy high gain antenna kits which can help boost the range even further.

it depends on how far the stations are located,as you say, go on moving in a car when you come nearer to a station (communication station) the station gives you a best signal .it goes on and on .but there is a stop when the entire system collapses and messages get weekened,that is the link.if it is a high frequency signal you could have sent through.,by microwave link to satellite and get back a reply from a very far away sender.
